3Q Fundraising Reports Open Thread

It’s officially October 1st, which means that candidates have until the 15th to file their third quarter fundraising reports with the FEC.  Got any early reports for House and Senate candidates?

Like we did last time, SSP will have a massive round-up of all the noteworthy numbers once they’ve been filed.

UPDATE: Here are a few early numbers:

  • MN-03:

Multiple sources are telling us that surrogates of [state Senator] Terri Bonoff [D] are calling Democrats in the 3rd District and telling them that Bonoff raised just around $90,000 in the third quarter.

Given that Bonoff only had about a week to work with before the quarter ended, $90,000 is impressive. Its clear that Bonoff has significant fundraising abilities.

  • TX-Sen:
    Rick Noriega (D): $570K raised

  • OH-14:

    Bill O’Neill (D): $100K+ raised

UPDATE 2 (David): Bunch more numbers in this Hill piece:

    Republican Primary Challengers:
CA-04: Mike Holmes, $20K (vs. John Doolittle)
MD-01: Andy Harris, >$175K (vs. Wayne Gilchrest)
NC-03: Joe McLaughlin, $24K (vs. Walter Jones)

    Republican Incumbents:
    KY-Sen: Mitch McConnell, “about” $1.5 million ($6.8 million cash-on-hand)

    Democratic Challengers:
    CO-02: Joan Fitz-Gerald, $360K; Jared Polis, >$305K
    ID-Sen: Larry LaRocco, >$100K
MN-Sen: Al Franken (D), “at least” $1.8 million

    1. I don’t have any early numbers, but I think this is at least noteworthy.

State Senate Minority Leader Mark Schauer has raised $45,474 through ActBlue alone this since announcing on August 23rd. $45,000 online in just over a month isn’t too bad, considering Jim Berryman raised $50,000 overall last quarter (including PAC contributions).

$4,500 of Schauer’s money came from his Pasty Challenge. I’m a big supporter of Yooper cuisine getting some attention.

    2. Warner has raised 408,000+ online alone.  I wonder if he has gotten mail with money for his campaign at all.  He is starting with a significant financial lead over his opponents.  Although I suppose Davis can transfer his US House campaign funds.  I’ll keep my eyes open.  Presidential contendors should be giving us numbers in the next day or so though too.

    3. I loved what you did last time act blue break down to see what house races won the race on act blue.

      When will that come out?

    4. State Senator Terri Bonoff (DFL) reportedly raised about $90,000 in about a week since Jim Ramsted announced he would not run again. Most pundits seem to think Bonoff is the frontrunner for the Dem nomination in this open seat.

    5. Is a disaster for so many reasons.

      1) They claim to be comparing their haul to the “2006-October 15th” filings of last cycle’s candidates but are actually using 2005 numbers (which actually makes more sense).

      2) Sherrod Brown didn’t declare until the 4th quarter. The number they cite is his House filing from the 3rd quarter.

      3) Claire McCaskill “announced” on 8/30/05 and did not officially file until late September. No matter how you slice it, she had just a fraction of the third quarter to work with.

      4) Jon Tester was running in one of the smallest states in the nation. Texas is the second-largest. Absurd comparison.

      5) They left off Sheldon Whitehouse (the press release says there were five Democrats who beat challengers – whoops), who also exceeded Noriega’s take, again in one of the smallest states in the nation.

      6) Though the press release says he raised less, the only remotely comparable candidate, Bob Casey in PA, raised vastly more than Noriega – $2.2 million.

      7) Jim Pederson, also running in a much smaller state, also out-raised Noriega (without any self-funding, which came later in the game).

      8) Harold Ford ran a little behind Noriega, but he clear half a million, again in a much smaller state.

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a worse train-wreck of a press release regarding fundraising from a supposedly “serious” Democrat. They get the numbers wrong, the people wrong, and the timing wrong. It’s sloppiness bordering on dishonesty.

    6. Al Franken didn’t let up at ALL.  He definitely crushed Norm Coleman this quarter.  I can’t wait to see it.

      1. It’s OK to tolerable for a small state. It’s a drop in the bucket for Texas. I don’t see how this guy has a chance. Sorry to say that, because I hate judging candidates by their warchests, but in Texas (and California) statewides, you really have to.

    7. Wow. Two candidates running FOR HOUSE in a safe district both are over 300k. And they’re not the only candidates! There’s a third who raised 300k last quarter and probably did just fine this time, too. Between the three, they’ve raised close to $2 million for one House seat which is totally safe Dem.

Too bad we can’t package up two of the three and ship them off to a swing-ier district. Sheesh.

    8. CD 5Doug Lamborn – Lamborn Raises $85,730
      CD5 – Jeff crank $75389.88

      cd 4 – Musgrave Raises $290,638
      cd 4 – Besty Markey $116365.10
